December 16 Walk a Mile in My ShoesLife in itself is always a challenging process to overcome, but so long as you have a pleasant attitude and don't get disheartened you can overcome anything. On the one hand, for a typical person life can be complicated; on the other hand, for a person with exceptional needs their livelihood can be more challenging for them. Yet with proper guidance, support and encouragement a person with distinctive needs can live a normal and healthy life. One may have obstacles to rise above depending on his or her disability, but so long as you have a positive outlook as well as a proficient attitude in life and by no means let anything get you down not to mention have faith in yourself you can prevail over anything in life. In fact, you will be able to do many of the same things possibly better than most ambulatory people can do. You can do anything you want so long as you try. One obstruction that may be problematical to prevail over may involve the family, but not always, it all depends on the type of relationship you have with each member of the family. The principle that a parent may have the most difficulty in accepting the child for everything that he or she may become in the future is accurate. This occurs when a parent begins to fear the worse or possibly even guilt for what happen to the child. Some parents may feel responsible and compelled to take care of the child even throughout their adult existence. The parent may also make special arrangements in case of their passing, arrangements that may involve specialized facility; for fear that they won't be able to take care of themselves. This fallacy was made to be believed because most people came to the assumption that when you are born to a disability you are incapable to do things for yourself, hence the word disable meaning incapable of doing. But what does that word mean? To be disabled? You can break your leg and be disabled, granted it will be for a short while but nonetheless you will be disabled. June 23 Medical problems the doctor doesn't warn you about with medication.Through the years I have been on so many different medication for my epilepsy. The doctor tells you about the side effects that you are already aware of; drowsiness, nausea, swelling of the limbs, but they never tell you what medical problems you may have. For instance if you take Phenobarbital it causes anemia, but if you take iron and folic acid daily you won't need a transfusion. Another example involves your liver or kidney, so if you take medication for whatever the reason make sure you are informed of the medical problems that may occur. June 18 Living with a double whammySince birth I have been living with Cerebral Palsy(Triplegia Cerebral Palsy) and Epilepsy. Growing up as a child I was able to walk with the aid of crutches or a walker, my epilepsy is well under control. Until three years ago when I had Anemia (due to my medication), my legs became weak for a while and I was unable to stand on my own much less crawl. Thanks to some iron and folic acid to control it, the strength in my legs had returned. I have learned over the years never to let my limitations stop me and to continue to excel myself March 23 Small townsIf there is anybody who lives in a big city, knows what it means to get away into a small town.
